HEAD AND NECK SURGERY
Head and neck surgery
If you have a mass growing from your salivary glands, nose, sinuses, mouth, throat, voice box, or upper oesophagus, Dr Gerrit Viljoen can assist you.
Masses or tumours growing in the head and neck region may be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancer). Usually a biopsy is required to make the diagnosis and to plan further management. Dr Viljoen can make use of ultrasonography to help make a diagnosis, and sometimes further imaging with CT or MRI scans are necessary.
Smokers or heavy drinkers are especially at risk of head and neck cancers and should ideally make an early appointment if they notice any tumours, voice changes or neck masses.
Common problems treated include…
- Benign and malignant tumours
- Salivary gland masses and duct obstruction
- Skin tumours
- Neck glands
- Oral cavity tumours
- Pharyngeal tumours
- Laryngeal tumours
- Advanced head and neck tumour resections
