Gerrit grew up in Bloemfontein and attended school in Johannesburg

University of the Free State

He completed his pre-graduate medical degree Cum Laude and also received top honours every year. He distinguished himself at the top of his medical class at UFS.

Medical Internship

East London & Kimberley

After the completion of his medical degree he threw himself at the most challenging working and training environments in order to achieve extensive experience into providing the best possible service and outcomes for all patients in whichever circumstances he found himself in.

He completed two years of medical internship in East London and thereafter worked for one year in the intensive care unit of Kimberley Hospital.

Steve Biko Academic Hospital

After Kimberley he worked in General Surgery and honed his surgical skills at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, Kalafong Hospital and Thembisa Hospital.

ENT Career

Stanger, KZN

He started his ENT career in the beautiful northern KZN town of Stanger at the regional hospital where excellent groundwork was laid for specialisation.

Specialisation

University of Cape Town

Four years of specialisation at the University of Cape Town. The training at UCT enabled him to receive the best possible ENT knowledge and skills under giants of the field at Groote Schuur Hospital and Red Cross War Memorial Hospital.

ENT Surgeon

Edge Day Hospital

Gerrit aims to be exceptional in all sub-disciplines of ENT, and he is especially passionate about head and neck surgery involving cancers of this region. All in all it is a privilege for him to meet every new person who crosses his path, and he will aim to provide his utmost best in all circumstances.

He currently runs his medical practice at the Edge Day Hospital in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

Dr Viljoen also operates at Netcare Greenacres Hospital and at Life St. Georges Hospital.
